Omnisphere is fucking overrated

Posted by zybor - June 13th, 2020

Lol if you thought buying sample packs were lame, try the noobs who buy presets. But that ain't the worst, the noobs who buy expensive preset like Omnisphere and make the kind of music that I started out 15 years ago.

It ain't even worth pirating.

Learn how a synth work, for real lol.

I think the true value of Omnisphere has been in it's enormous Mutistacking potential backed by it's diverse selection of sources to utilise. With two OSC's per stack (upto 8), that allows for 16 sources at once to pretty much be played in a single output. My experimental uses for that in the past would be for mixing Omnisphere's choirs and various texture sources together on super-high attack and release values, fine tweak each Multi slot with the appropriate filtering adjustments and then making some pretty incredible Dark Ambient and other Cinematic material to act as a supporting under layer for a track. It's such a nice product when the presets are ignored entirely and the user invests a chunk of their time into making their own stack presets in, but yeah that takes a fair amount of time to do and the lads on a timeframe or who are inexperienced burn money on preset packs alot nowadays.

Saying that, I've been stuck on V1 for like 8 years now. Never bothered to pay to upgrade to V2 since I don't really touch Omnisphere that much anymore, except for rather specific use. Although I am due to release an AIM entry in the next couple of days where I did 'cyberize' and glitch up a Tuvan Singer hosted inside of Omnisphere for the bridge haha

Your points are all very valid. I probably shouldn't be mad about Omnisphere since I'm a kettle (Kontakt lol) calling the pot black. Oh well, maybe some day I'll get Omnisphere when I see the need of it.
